We were on a church retreat in Cambria, with Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church of San Luis Obispo, and I had a seizure. The pastor wanted to call 911, and I asked her not to, because it would take the ambulance a while to get there, down a narrow dirt road, for me to tell them that I didn't need their assistance. I didn't want to waste their time.

When we got back from the retreat, she asked to talk to me alone, and then asked me to no longer attend the church's college and young adult group and to stop playing drum in the church's Sunday morning worship band...

Kicked out of church because of my health, and not wanting to deal with emergency services that don't know how to help me.

So, as I left the church to drive home, tears pouring down my face, I got onto the highway, and did not feel comfortable being there. I looked around me, saw no one nearby, and then veered into the center guardrail....

The car didn't turn sharply, and ended up only scraping the front fender along the rail. I probably could have driven off... but my back hurt, and I was heartbroken.

I laid down in the grass behind my car, in view of all traffic driving by, out of the way, but clearly not well, but also pretty much perfectly fine. An ambulance came, and drove me the less than half mile to the hospital, which was very expensive...

After the hospital cleared that I was ok, I walked a couple blocks to a friend's apartment where I had planned on watching the Superbowl prior to getting kicked out of church.

The damage to the freeway guardrail got me Destruction of Property charges, but when I explained the events that led up to my crashing, the DA and judge felt sympathy, and reduced my charges to Disturbing The Peace....and community service.

The community service ended up being working at an e-waste drop-off, taking apart computers. It was such an enjoyable task, that I kept volunteering long after my service hours were finished. lol

The tow company brought my Subaru home for me, and it was drivable, though I did remove the bashed up front left fender. And then sold it......

While working the e-waste drop-off, they came in to drop off some stuff, the new owners had installed a green fender, which clashed horribly with the gold (champagne) of the rest of the car. But it was still driving fine...

I do still miss Emma.
